Aikido “The Way of Harmony of Spirit” is a Japanese system of Martial Art whose origins can be traced back to the 12th Century. It was created by Morihei Uyeshiba O Sensei (1883 - 1969) as a basis for both physical and spiritual development.
Aikido has been compared to the flowing movement and gracefulness of ballet yet its techniques can be devastating in their simplicity. Sometimes called the Art of Gentle Mayhem, Aikido is regarded as one of the most spiritual and sophisticated of Martial Arts systems.
Aikido can be practiced by almost anyone, by men, women and children from an early age without the need to be particularly athletic or strong.
Aikido has no attack. It is defensive to the point of non-violence. The aggression of the attack is defeated without brute force by skillful, harmonious, circular movements in co-ordination with the attacker to render their attack harmless and without injury to them.
